Theft accused arrested in Sopore, Timber & Horse Cart seized : Police

Srinagar : Police on Monday said that it  has  arrested an accused involved in the illegal felling, theft and transportation of forest produce in the Warpora forest area of Sopore. Stolen willow timber along with the horse cart used in the commission of the offence was seized.

In a statement issued here on Monday Police said that while acting on specific inputs  a case of forest theft was detected byit  in the Warpora forest area and one accused involved in the illegal extraction and transportation of forest produce was arrested. A police party from Police Post Warpora rushed to the spot after receiving credible inputs  regarding the illegal felling and theft of willow timber from the forest area. During the operation, one individual was found transporting illegally felled willow logs on a horse cart. The accused has been identified as Manzoor Ahmad Ganaie S/O  Mohammad Shabir Ganaie R/O  Jalalabad, Sopore. The stolen willow timber along with the horse cart used for its transportation was seized on the spot. In this connection a case under  FIR No. 136/2026 under Section 303(2) BNS and Section 26-F of the Forest Act has been registered at Police Station Sopore and investigation has also been taken up.

In its statement Police reiterated its commitment to protect forest resources and preventing illegal felling, theft and transportation of timber , warning therein that  strict legal action shall be taken against all those found involved in forest offences and environmental crimes. Reiterating  its zero-tolerance policy towards activities causing damage to forests and natural resources Police appealed to report any such illegal activities to the nearest police station.
