‎New Delhi, June 8 (UNI) ‎Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday highlighted the welfare initiatives undertaken by his government over the past 12 years, asserting that the core objective of governance has been to improve the lives of the poor and ensure that the benefits of development reach those who were left behind for decades.
‎In a post on social media platform X, Modi said India had witnessed significant transformations during the last 12 years, driven by a commitment to the welfare of the poor and downtrodden.
He said the government’s approach had been inspired by the principle of “Antyodaya” — uplifting the last person in society — and aimed at ensuring dignity and opportunity for all.
‎“Over the last 12 years, India has witnessed many transformations, and at the core of these changes is the welfare of the poor and downtrodden. We have always been inspired by Antyodaya, and our effort has always been to ensure that the benefits of development reach those who were left behind for decades,” the Prime Minister said.
‎Modi cited a range of flagship schemes launched during his tenure, including the Jan Dhan Yojana, Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), Swachh Bharat Mission, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Jal Jeevan Mission and Ayushman Bharat, saying each initiative had been designed with the objective of improving the quality of life of ordinary citizens.
‎“From Jan Dhan accounts and Direct Benefit Transfer to Swachh Bharat, PM Awas Yojana, Jal Jeevan Mission, Ayushman Bharat and more, every initiative has been driven by a simple objective of ensuring people have dignity and opportunity,” he said.
‎The Prime Minister also underlined the role of technology in delivering welfare benefits more efficiently and transparently. According to him, digital platforms and DBT mechanisms have enabled government assistance to reach beneficiaries directly, reducing leakages and enhancing trust in governance.
‎“It is also gladdening that technology has played a vital role in ensuring a better quality of life for the poor. Through Direct Benefit Transfer and digital platforms, support is reaching people directly and transparently. This has reduced leakages, improved efficiency and strengthened trust in governance,” Modi said.
‎The Prime Minister described the government’s welfare efforts as a broader movement aimed at empowering citizens and strengthening the foundation for a developed India by 2047.
‎“This is how the journey of furthering Garib Kalyan has become a collective movement towards human empowerment and realising our dream of a Viksit Bharat,” he added.
‎The remarks come as the National Democratic Alliance government marks 12 years in office, a period during which the centre has consistently highlighted welfare delivery, financial inclusion, housing, sanitation, healthcare and access to basic services as key pillars of its governance agenda.
The government has maintained that the use of technology and digital infrastructure has helped improve transparency and ensure targeted delivery of benefits, while opposition parties have often questioned its overall record on employment, inflation and social welfare outcomes.
