Says “Pilot Projects Rolling Out At 7-8 Location Across Borders In India”
“Smart security grid being ugraded using drones, sensors, smart fencing”

Agartala (Tripura): Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced on Friday the establishment of a “quadrangular foolproof security grid” on India’s international borders.
Speaking at the Lankamura Border Outpost of the BSF in Tripura, Shah revealed that a pilot project for “smart borders” is in its final stages and will soon roll out at seven to eight locations where the BSF and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) are deployed. To modernise border infrastructure, Shah said “approval has been granted for replacing 119 km of fencing out of around 650 km that is over 15 years old.”
He explained that the initiative marks a broader shift in the operational approach of Central Armed Police Forces, Saying “The concept of smart borders is in its final stage and a pilot project for ‘smart borders’ will be rolled out simultaneously at seven to eight locations across different borders of the country. A smart security grid is being developed using cutting-edge technology, drones, sensors, and smart fencing,”
Emphasizing that “border security can no longer function in isolation”, Shah highlighted that the new strategy relies heavily on integration. He noted that “the combined efforts of district magistrates, superintendents of police, patwaris, sarpanches, modern technology, and Border Security Force (BSF) personnel will create a foolproof security grid.” Without integrating local administration, he added, making borders fully secure would be impossible.
The Home Minister linked these upgrades to national progress, noting that securing the country from smuggling, human trafficking, and drug abuse is essential to achieving India’s goal of becoming a fully developed nation by 2047.
During his visit, Shah inspected the outpost, interacted with personnel, and planted an agar sapling to mark World Environment Day. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha and top security officials were also present.
