G’bal : Police have arrested a man in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district for allegedly impersonating a government employee and attempting to dupe vendors and service providers by promising to facilitate their visit to the holy Amarnath cave shrine in exchange for money, officials said on Thursday.

Police said information was received at Police Station Sonamarg on May 27 that a person, identified as Mohammad Ayob Jara, a resident of Androola area of Poonch district, was roaming in the Domail area and falsely portraying himself as a government employee posted on the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra route.

The accused allegedly approached visiting vendors and service providers, claiming he could facilitate their visit to the cave shrine in return for money, officials said.

Following the information, a case was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Police Station Sonamarg and an investigation was initiated.

The accused was apprehended late on June 3, police said, adding that further investigation into the matter is underway.
