Ganderbal : Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Jatin Kishore, today appealed to the people of the district to participate in large numbers in the Mega Padyatra being organised in the district under the ongoing NashaMukt J&K campaign.

Addressing a press conference here, the DC informed that a Mega Padyatra will be held on June 5 at Qamaria Stadium, Ganderbal, in which Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor,  Manoj Sinha will participate and lead the rally.

Appealing to the citizens of Ganderbal, the DC urged people from all walks of life to join the event in maximum numbers and contribute towards making the NashaMukt J&K campaign a grand success.

He said that under the leadership of Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor,  Manoj Sinha, a 100-day intensive campaign against drug abuse is being carried out across Jammu and Kashmir with a focus on making the Union Territory drug-free, and this Mega Padyatra is part of the sustained campaign.

He added that the campaign has witnessed an encouraging response from the public over the past several weeks, with extensive awareness activities being conducted in villages, schools and communities across the district and UT.

The DC highlighted that a series of programmes, including rallies, skits and awareness campaigns, have been organised with the active involvement of various departments, including District Administration, Police, Health, Social Welfare and School Education Departments among others.

He said the overwhelming public participation has transformed the initiative into a people’s movement in Ganderbal district.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Jatin Kishore, accompanied by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sudhanshu Dhama, also held an extensive interaction with civil society members, traders, industrialists, religious scholars, community representatives and other stakeholders to strengthen public participation in the anti-drug campaign.

The meeting witnessed strong enthusiasm among participants, who pledged wholehearted support and active participation in the upcoming mega rally.

Addressing the gathering, the DC said the fight against drug abuse is a collective social responsibility that can succeed only through active public involvement. He said the encouraging response over the past one-and-a-half months shows the campaign is steadily taking shape as a mass movement in Ganderbal.

The DC reiterated the administration’s commitment to strengthening the anti-drug movement and ensuring wider public engagement in building a drug-free society.
