Srinagar, June 1: The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) on Monday resumed its search operation for the second consecutive day to trace and retrieve the body of a Srinagar resident who drowned in the Lidder River in Pahalgam while attempting to save his son.
An official spokesperson said that SDRF Anantnag teams restarted the operation on June 1 to locate the body of Mohd Ashraf Mir, son of Ghulam Mohiuddin Mir, a resident of Ikhrajpora, Jawahar Nagar, Srinagar.
According to officials, Mohd Ashraf Mir was swept away in the Lidder River at Langanbal in Pahalgam after he entered the river in an attempt to rescue his son. While the son was reportedly saved, Mir drowned in the process.
The SDRF, assisted by local authorities, has been conducting extensive searches along the river stretch since the incident. Efforts to trace the body were continuing till the filing of this report.
