According to officials, Mohd Ashraf Mir was swept away in the Lidder River at Langanbal in Pahalgam after he entered the river in an attempt to rescue his son. While the son was reportedly saved, Mir drowned in the process.

The SDRF, assisted by local authorities, has been conducting extensive searches along the river stretch since the incident. Efforts to trace the body were continuing till the filing of this report.
