Winners felicitated during the valedictory ceremony
Srinagar : The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar successfully organized the 75th edition of its fitness initiative, “Sundays on Cycle,” which took place on the institute’s campus.
The cycling event, held to commemorate Commonwealth Day, aimed to promote physical fitness, environmental awareness, and community engagement, attracting enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, staff, and children. The event was inaugurated by Registrar Prof. Atikur Rehman, alongside NSS Coordinator Dr. Pramod Kumar Yadav and other senior faculty members. Director Prof. Binod Kumar Kanaujia emphasized that reaching this milestone reflects the institute’s ongoing commitment to wellness and sustainable living, fostering a healthy campus culture. He noted that such initiatives enhance community spirit and encourage students to adopt fitness-oriented lifestyles. Registrar Dr. Rehman highlighted the significance of cycling in promoting personal health and a pollution-free environment. The event showcased inclusiveness, with participation from children, faculty, and students, as noted by In-charge Dean Students’ Welfare Dr. Shashikant Kumar. NSS Coordinator Dr. Yadav remarked on the growing awareness among youth regarding health and fitness, while ANO NCC Lt. Dr. Nitika Kundan pointed out that such activities foster discipline, leadership, and teamwork. The cycling competition featured various categories, including faculty, staff, students, and their wards. Notable winners included Dr. Dasari Karthik in the faculty category, Aishwarya Kichlu in the girls’ student category, and Aakash in the boys’ category. Wards of faculty also participated, with Azaan Ilahi and Atif Ahmad securing first places in their respective age groups. A valedictory ceremony concluded the event, where winners received trophies and certificates, and all participants were awarded participation certificates. The program ended with a commitment to continue promoting fitness and social responsibility among youth.
