- SSP Budgam directed to register FIRs against violators sharing pictures, revealing identity of victim
Srinagar : The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Budgam on Tuesday directed all social media platforms to immediately remove photographs of the minor victim in the recent Budgam rape and murder case, warning of strict legal action against violators.
According to an order issued by the Secretary/Sub Judge, DLSA Budgam, authorities observed that photographs of the victim from Gulwanpora, Budgam, were being uploaded and circulated on various social media platforms, in violation of provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act and the victim’s right to privacy.
According to the orderrthe identity of the victim is a punishable offence under law.
“As such, all social media platforms and the general public are informed through this order to refrain from revealing the identity of the victim or circulating her photographs, failing which violators shall be booked under the law,” the order reads.
The DLSA further directed all social media platforms to remove the victim’s photographs immediately.
Meanwhile, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Budgam has been directed to register FIRs against individuals who continue to upload or circulate the victim’s photographs despite the order
