Baramulla : Police on Friday said that it has seized three tractors for involvement in illegal mining and initiated legal proceedings against them.
In a statement issued here on Friday Police said that during routine area patrolling at Hurhandpur, Dargam, a police team intercepted two tractors caught actively extracting minerals illegally. The drivers, identified as Mudasir Ahmad Rather, son of Ghulam Hussain Rather (resident of Pakipora), and Yasir Hassan, son of Ghulam Hassan Wani (resident of Dargam), were apprehended at the spot. In a separate enforcement action police intercepted and seized a third tractor (Registration No. JK05P-0798) heavily loaded with unlawfully extracted Bajri.
Following the operations, the police confirmed that formal legal action under the relevant provisions of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) [MMDR] Act has been initiated in all cases. In its statement Police reiterated its commitment to strictly enforce environmental laws and curb illegal extraction of minor minerals in the region.
