DM appeals for mass public participation

SHOPIAN, MAY 22: District Magistrate Shopian, Shishir Gupta, today interacted with the media regarding the upcoming Mega Padyatra being organized in the district under the ongoing 100 Days Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan.

He said that the Lieutenant Governor launched the 100 day Nasha Mukt Abhiyan across Jammu and Kashmir from April 11, 2026, with the objective of intensifying the fight against drug abuse and taking the message of a drug-free society to every household.

He informed that as part of the campaign, Mega Padyatras are being organized in every district of Jammu and Kashmir. In this connection, the Mega Padyatra in Shopian district is scheduled to be held tomorrow, May 23, 2026, in which the Lieutenant Governor,J&K, Manoj Sinha will be the Chief Guest.

“Tomorrow’s Mega Padyatra is not merely an event, but a collective pledge of the people of Shopian against drug abuse. Every citizen’s participation will strengthen this mission and send a strong message that society stands united for a Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir,” the DM said.

He said that the main aim of the programme is to create mass awareness against drug abuse and ensure that the message of Nasha Mukt Abhiyan reaches every home, every village, and every section of society.

Appealing to the people of Shopian district, including youth, students, civil society members, traders, religious leaders, PRIs, government employees and the general public, the DM urged them to participate in large numbers.

The DM emphasized that drug abuse is a serious social menace and cannot be controlled by the administration alone. He said that collective public participation is essential to fight this challenge effectively and to protect the younger generation from the harmful effects of substance abuse.

He further urged citizens to come forward with a sense of responsibility and join hands with the administration in making Shopian a drug-free district.
