Srinagar : National Referee & Jury Course organised by the Indian Pencak Silat Federation commenced Saturday at the Sher-i-Kashmir Indoor Sports Complex amidst an enthusiastic gathering of sports officials, coaches, referees, and martial arts enthusiasts from across the country.
The four-day Pencak Silat course, scheduled from May 16 to May 19, 2026, is organized with the support of the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council, aiming to enhance technical standards and officiating excellence in the sport across India. The opening ceremony featured Nuzhat Gul, the Secretary, as the Chief Guest, alongside Titih Hayati, an internationally recognized educator from the International Pencak Silat Federation, who served as the Guest of Honour. The event was attended by various dignitaries and senior officials involved in martial arts and sports development. Over 200 coaches, referees, and technical officials from various states and union territories are participating, marking this as one of the largest gatherings of Pencak Silat professionals in India. The program is designed to equip participants with updated knowledge on international refereeing standards, jury systems, and modern officiating practices, all under expert guidance. Nuzhat Gul commended the organizers for selecting Srinagar as the venue and highlighted the significance of such national-level technical courses in fostering professionalism and a sporting culture among the youth. She reaffirmed the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council’s commitment to supporting emerging sports and creating opportunities for athletes and officials. This event underscores the increasing popularity of Pencak Silat in India and positions Srinagar as a dynamic hub for national sporting events and martial arts activities.
