Srinagar : Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar, Dr. G.V. Sandeep, on Saturday inaugurated the District Administration Srinagar’s Rolling Trophy for the Inter-College Cricket Tournament (Men & Women)–2026 at S.P. College Srinagar under the Youth Engagement and Empowerment Programme.

The inaugural ceremony of the inter-college cricket tournament was attended by notable dignitaries, including Dr. Seem Naz, Nodal Principal of Kashmir Division Colleges, and several college principals. The event also saw participation from officials of the Youth Services and Sports Department, along with various law enforcement representatives. The tournament features 18 teams from different Government Degree Colleges, split evenly between men’s and women’s categories, with Amar Singh College facing Government Degree College Hyderpora in the opening match. During the ceremony, SSP Srinagar emphasized the critical role of sports in youth development and character building. He highlighted that sporting events not only nurture talent but also redirect the energy of young individuals towards constructive activities. He urged students to avoid drug abuse, which he identified as a significant threat to society, and called for collective efforts from parents, educators, and the community to combat this issue. Dr. Seem Naz also spoke on the importance of sports in fostering youth engagement and empowerment. She noted that participation in sports helps students develop essential skills such as leadership, teamwork, and mental resilience. Furthermore, she stressed the need for educational institutions and society to collaborate in raising awareness about drug abuse and providing positive outlets for youth. The event concluded with a sense of enthusiasm among participants, marking the start of a tournament aimed at promoting sports culture and empowering the youth in Srinagar.
