Police trace accused, rescue minor girl within 12 hours, probe underway

Srinagar: A woman was killed while trying to prevent the alleged abduction of her 15-year-old daughter in Kechpuran area of Khansahib, with police solving the blind murder and kidnapping case within 12 hours and rescuing the minor girl safely, officials said.
Officials said that Police Station Khansahib received information during the intervening night about an accident at Chek Sheera, where an unknown vehicle had allegedly run over a woman pedestrian, resulting in her death.
A police official said the deceased woman was shifted to District Hospital Budgam, where doctors declared her brought dead.
He said a case, FIR No. 96/2026, under Sections 125A and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered at Police Station Khansahib, and an investigation was taken up.
During the course of the investigation, police found that the minor daughter of the deceased had allegedly been kidnapped, and the woman was killed when she tried to prevent the accused from taking her daughter away.
Acting swiftly, a police team headed by SDPO Khansahib launched an intensive investigation, analysing multiple CCTV footages and technical evidence.
Police said that through sustained efforts, the accused was traced and arrested from the Parimpora area of Srinagar, while the kidnapped 15-year-old girl was rescued safely within 12 hours of the incident.
Subsequently, relevant sections related to murder and kidnapping were added to the case, while further investigation is underway, the official said
