Presides over one-day district Convention in Budgam; MP Chowdry Ramzan, Showkat Mir also address meeting

Srinagar, 16 May: A one-day convention of the Working Committee of District Budgam comprising delegates, working committee members and block functionaries was held today at the party’s district headquarters, Mujahid Manzil, Budgam. The convention was presided over by General Secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar.

Among those present on the occasion were Additional General Secretary and Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan, MLAs Ali Mohammad Dar, Dr. Mohammad Shafi and Saif-ud-Din Bhat; Provincial President Showkat Ahmad Mir, Provincial Secretary Syed Tawqeer, senior leader Aga Syed Mahmood, Minority Wing Organizer J.S. Azad, Trade Union Convenor Ghulam Mohammad Hamdard and Nazir Ahmad Gogoo.

The convention was organised by District President Budgam Ghulam Nabi Bhat.

During the convention, organisational matters and issues of public importance were discussed in detail. Speakers highlighted the governance and welfare initiatives undertaken by the Omar-led government and stressed the need to strengthen the party at the grassroots level by taking the achievements of the elected government to every doorstep.

Addressing the gathering, Ali Mohammad Sagar said the National Conference government remains firmly committed to fulfilling the aspirations of the people and ensuring inclusive and people-centric development across Jammu and Kashmir. He said party workers must actively engage with the public and counter the false and politically motivated propaganda being spread by the BJP and PDP.

“BJP and PDP are reading from the same script. Frustrated by the overwhelming public response to the Omar-led government’s pro-poor initiatives, they are now resorting to peddling baseless narratives and non-issues to mislead the people,” Sagar said.

He said the Omar government has delivered tangible relief to economically weaker sections through a series of welfare measures, including 200 units of free electricity and 10 kg additional ration per person for AYY families, free bus travel for women in government transport, enhancement of pensions for over 10 lakh vulnerable persons and increasing marriage assistance for EWS girls from ₹50,000 to ₹75,000.

Sagar further said that under Mission YUVA, the government aims to establish 1.37 lakh enterprises and generate around 4.25 lakh jobs for youth. He also highlighted initiatives aimed at strengthening healthcare and education infrastructure, promoting tourism, improving solid waste management, bridging regional disparities, empowering women and youth, providing six free LPG cylinders annually to AAY families, free education up to college level for poor households and allotting five marlas of land to families affected by natural calamities.

“These initiatives have exposed the anti-people politics of BJP and PDP. Instead of supporting welfare measures, they are uncomfortable with a government that is directly benefiting the poor, youth, women, and marginalised sections,” he added.

Speaking on the occasion MP Chowdry Mohammad Ramzan said the Omar-led government has prioritised responsive and people-centric governance while working tirelessly to address public concerns. He urged party workers to strengthen their connection with the masses and ensure that the benefits of the government welfare and development programmes reach every section of society.

He said the opposition parties have failed to digest the growing public confidence in the National Conference government and are therefore trying to divert attention through misinformation and divisive politics. “The people of Jammu and Kashmir can clearly see the difference between politics based on public welfare and politics driven by opportunism and deception,” he said.
