Srinagar : Vice Chancellor of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir, Nazir Ahmad Ganie on Wednesday visited the Advanced Research Station for Saffron and Seed Spices (ARSS&TSS) at Pampore, where he reviewed ongoing research and extension activities and inaugurated a state-of-the-art molecular laboratory.
Accompanied by Director Extension Raihana Habib, the Vice Chancellor appreciated the station’s work in the fields of kalazeera, saffron, and other temperate seed spices, noting its significant contributions to research and development in the sector.
The newly inaugurated Molecular Laboratory is expected to enhance advanced research in molecular breeding, genomics, and crop improvement programmes, providing a major boost to scientific innovation at the station.
During the visit, detailed discussions were also held on the revival and sustainable promotion of saffron, with a focus on improving productivity, maintaining quality, and conserving the heritage crop through scientific interventions and modern technologies.
The Vice Chancellor expressed satisfaction over the achievements of the research station and emphasized the need to further strengthen research-driven approaches to support farmers and safeguard Kashmir’s traditional crops.
