Srinagar : Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Transport, Youth Services & Sports, Information Technology and Science & Technology, Satish Sharma along with MLA Zadibal Tanvir Sadiq, on Wednesday unveiled the customised jersey for the upcoming Khyber Run for ShahreKhaas 2026 at SAMCI, Rajbagh, ahead of the much-awaited heritage run scheduled to be held on May 17 in Srinagar’s old city.

The revival of the iconic Run for ShahreKhaas, organized by Fucan Sports in collaboration with KSW, has generated significant excitement among athletes in Jammu and Kashmir, with registrations closing within 48 hours. Approximately 150 professional athletes are expected to participate in the 10-kilometre run, which will traverse several historic landmarks in downtown Srinagar, concluding at the Islamia College Campus in Hawal. Minister Satish Sharma praised the organizers for bringing back this event, emphasizing its role in promoting fitness and showcasing the cultural heritage of Srinagar. He highlighted the government’s commitment to enhancing the sports ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir under Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s leadership, aiming to increase youth participation in sports and fitness activities as a means to combat drug abuse. Tanvir Sadiq, who previously flagged off the event nearly a decade ago, expressed his privilege in being associated with it again. He noted that the run not only promotes a healthy lifestyle but also emphasizes the rich heritage of Srinagar’s old city. Sadiq reiterated the importance of fitness in addressing drug-related issues and encouraged continuous awareness efforts against drug abuse. The 10-kilometre route will begin at Badamwari Gate and pass through various historic sites before finishing at the college campus. All participants will receive customized finisher medals, T-shirts, and participation certificates. The event is supported by several organizations, with Khyber serving as the title sponsor. Notable figures in attendance included members of the J&K SnowShoe Association and prominent athletes, reflecting the growing enthusiasm for sports and fitness in the region.
