Srinagar: The Indian Army on Tuesday foiled an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu Davison’s Poonch district, killing one suspected terrorist during an exchange of fire in the Krishna Ghati sector, officials said.
Alert troops detected suspicious movement nearly 300 metres inside Indian territory in the forward area during the afternoon and challenged the infiltrators, triggering a gunfight. According to the Army, the intrusion bid originated from across the LoC in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
In a post on X, the Army’s White Knight Corps said the movement was picked up during sustained surveillance around 4 pm, following which troops responded swiftly and thwarted the attempt.
“The infiltration bid was foiled and one intruder has been neutralised,” it said, adding that there was no breach of the LoC.
Sources said the killed intruder is suspected to be linked to the Pakistan-based outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba and was attempting to infiltrate near the Bicho Post in the Mankote area.
Security forces have since intensified searches in the area to rule out the presence of any other infiltrators. The Army said troops continue to maintain a high level of operational readiness and domination along the sector to prevent such attempts.
