J&K Police Demolish Illegal Structures Linked to Drug Peddler in Kulgam

Kulgam, May 12: `In a significant action against the narcotics network and illegal encroachments, J&K Police in Kulgam, in close coordination with the Revenue Department, carried out a demolition drive at Survey No. 197 situated at village Drien Dawlatabad.

A Police spokesperson said that During the operation, two illegal shops constructed over State land by notorious NDPS accused Zahoor Ahmad Sheikh S/o Mohd. Jamal Sheikh R/o Drinen were demolished in accordance with law. The accused is involved in four NDPS cases, Viz; FIR No. 150/2018, FIR No. 251/2020, FIR No. 87/2020 & FIR No. 101/2023. Apart from the above, he is also involved in five other local/stone pelting related cases.

Senior Superintendent of Police Kulgam, stated that Kulgam Police is committed to dismantling the ecosystem of drug peddling and criminal activities in the district. He reiterated that strict action against drug peddlers, habitual offenders, and persons involved in illegal encroachments over State land will continue in close coordination with the civil administration. The SSP further stated that the ongoing campaign against narcotics is aimed at safeguarding the youth from the menace of drugs and ensuring a peaceful, secure, and drug-free society.

He also appealed to the general public, especially the youth and community elders, to come forward and cooperate with Police in the fight against drug abuse by sharing information related to drug peddling and other unlawful activities, assuring that the identity of informants shall be kept strictly confidential.
