Srinagar, May 11: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar on Monday predicted rain and thundershower activity across Jammu and Kashmir, while advising people to remain cautious amid the possibility of hailstorms, lightning and gusty winds.

According to the MeT department, one or two spells of rain and thundershower are expected at most places across the Union Territory during the afternoon and late evening hours on May 11 and 12. The department said there is a possibility of hailstorm, thunder and gusty winds with speeds reaching 50-60 kilometres per hour at a few places in both Kashmir and Jammu divisions.

The weather is expected to remain generally dry from May 13 to 17, although brief showers may occur at isolated places during afternoon hours.

Meanwhile, the MeT department has issued an advisory asking people to remain alert during the period of inclement weather. Authorities have advised suspension of boating and shikara riding activities, particularly during afternoon hours, in view of strong winds and thunderstorm activity.

Farmers have also been advised to suspend farming operations from May 11 to 13 to avoid any weather-related damage or risk.
