Baramulla : Police on Saturday said that it has arrested two persons and also seized five vehicles for being involved in the illegal extraction and transportation of minerals in Baramulla.
In a statement issued here on Saturday Police said that during naka checking on Kunzer–Tangmarg axis, police intercepted two tractors moving from Reeram towards Batpora. The vehicles bearing registration No. JK09B-3203 and another tractor (engine No. S/CB09990) were found loaded with illegally extracted nallah bajri (gravel). The drivers identified as Mudasir Ahmad Bhat and Sahil Ahmad Dar, both residents of Chandbagh, failed to produce valid permissions. A case under FIR No. 59/2026 under relevant sections of BNS and PDPP Act has been registered at Police Station Kunzer and both vehicles have been seized. In a separate action at Kanispora, police seized three tippers carrying illegally extracted sand and gravel. Legal proceedings under Section 21 of the MMDR Act have been initiated.
