World Red Cross Day observed across Jammu Division with enthusiasm

Jammu :Promoting love and compassion for mankind, a series of activities were held across Jammu Division to mark the Red Cross Day with the involvement of students, civil society and government officials.

At Udhampur:  World Red Cross Day was observed with great enthusiasm in Udhampur, promoting this year’s theme ‘United in Humanity. The District Red Cross Society hosted a symposium competition with Deputy Commissioner Minga Sherpa as the chief guest. As many as 10 students from different educational institutions participated and expressed their views. Highlighting the role and functioning of the District Red Cross Society, the Deputy Commissioner urged the youth to volunteer for the Red Cross, describing it as an excellent platform for serving humanity and promoting social responsibility. Later, the Deputy Commissioner distributed Poshan Kits among the beneficiaries, besides handing over mementoes and certificates to the participating students in recognition of their enthusiastic participation in the programme.

At Doda: World Red Cross Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and zeal across Doda district, promoting the theme “United in Humanity.”   The District Red Cross Society organized a series of activities including debate competitions, paper reading, painting competitions, Nukkad Natak and cultural programmes at Government Boys Higher Secondary School Doda. Deputy Commissioner Krishan Lal, who is also the Chairman of the District Red Cross Society, flagged off  the World Red Cross Day awareness rally from DC Office Complex Doda to Government Boys Higher Secondary School Doda.    Students representing different schools of the district actively participated in the debate, painting and paper reading competitions, besides presenting cultural performances based on this year’s World Red Cross Day theme, “United in Humanity.”

Meanwhile, World Red Cross Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Sub District Hospital Bhaderwah. A blood Donation  was organised at the event inaugurated by local MLA Daleep Singh Parihar in the presence of ADC Sunil Kumar Bhuttal and BMO Dr. Versha Sharma under the banner of the Indian Red Cross Society. Jawans from Indian Army 4RR, 33 BN CRPF,   SSB and police donated blood to save human lives. Commanding Officer (CO) Army 4RR, CEO BDA also donated blood, while officers and officials from different departments contributed generously to the Red Cross Fund. A dialysis unit at Sub District Hospital Bhaderwah was also inaugurated by MLA Bhaderwah in the presence of ADC and BMO.

At Kishtwar: District Red Cross Society Kishtwar celebrated World Red Cross Day 2026 with great enthusiasm and zeal under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Sharma, who is also its Chairman. The Deputy Commissioner, who was also the chief guest on the occasion, highlighted the history and significance of World Red Cross Day and paid tribute to Henry Dunant, the founder of the International Red Cross Movement. He elaborated on the remarkable role being played by the District Red Cross Society Kishtwar in serving humanity, especially during emergencies and natural calamities.

 At Reasi: The District Administration of Reasi celebrated World Red Cross Day at the Auditorium of the DC Office Complex. Deputy Commissioner Kumar Abhishek was the chief guest on the occasion. Officers and officials from line departments, volunteers, students and members of the Red Cross Society took part in the event.  Students from different schools and colleges shared their thoughts and experiences about the importance of the Red Cross and humanitarian service. Speakers emphasized the significance of World Red Cross Day and honoured Henry Dunant, whose birth anniversary is observed each year on May 8. The Deputy Commissioner commended the selfless service of Red Cross volunteers and healthcare workers in helping those in need. Meanwhile, the Government Degree College Katra Friday celebrated World Red Cross Day with great enthusiasm and humanitarian spirit on the college campus. The programme was organised to spread awareness among students about the principles and humanitarian services of the Red Cross Movement and to encourage the spirit of volunteerism and social responsibility among the youth. The event commenced with a pledge ceremony in which students, faculty members and staff pledged to uphold the values of humanity, compassion, impartiality and selfless service towards society.

At Ramban: Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Alyas Khan inaugurated a blood donation camp organised by the District Administration Ramban at District Hospital to mark World Red Cross Day, reaffirming the district’s commitment towards humanitarian activities and voluntary blood donation initiatives. Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner appreciated the efforts of the Health Department, Red Cross volunteers and civil society organisations for organising the camp. A large number of volunteers participated in the camp and donated blood, demonstrating enthusiasm towards the noble cause.
