Srinagar : Kashmir Medical College and Hospital (KMCH) in Sempora, Srinagar, has achieved a significant milestone by successfully performing its first Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy, a minimally invasive procedure for gallbladder removal.
The operation was conducted by a skilled surgical team led by Dr. Sheikh Sajad, along with an experienced anaesthesiology team headed by Dr. Basharat. The successful execution of this procedure is seen as a major advancement for KMCH and the broader healthcare landscape in the region. Dr. Sheikh Sajad emphasized that the introduction of laparoscopic surgeries at KMCH will enhance the healthcare system and alleviate pressure on government hospitals, ultimately benefiting patients through quicker recovery and improved treatment outcomes. He indicated that this achievement marks the beginning of more advanced surgical procedures to be offered in the future, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to comprehensive patient care. Prof. Dr. Nazir Ahmad Khan, Principal/Dean of KMCH, praised the surgical team’s efforts and highlighted the importance of this achievement for healthcare services in Jammu and Kashmir. He reiterated KMCH’s dedication to providing cutting-edge, affordable, and accessible healthcare, particularly for the middle-class population. With the availability of laparoscopic surgeries, patients can expect reduced travel times and shorter waiting periods for such procedures, enhancing convenience and care quality. Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is recognized as the standard treatment for symptomatic gallstones, offering advantages such as faster recovery, reduced post-operative pain, and smaller scars compared to traditional open surgery. The successful implementation of this procedure at KMCH signifies a transformative step in the region’s healthcare services.
