Kathua :Deputy Commissioner Kathua Rajesh Sharma who is also the Principal Census Officer Kathua, Friday briefed the media regarding the upcoming Census 2027 exercise and highlighted the importance of public participation in the self-enumeration process to ensure smooth and accurate data collection.

The Deputy Commissioner informed that the self-enumeration phase will be conducted from May 17 to May 31, 2026, during which citizens will be able to furnish their household details online through the designated Census portal se.census.gov.in. He said this facility has been introduced to make the process more convenient, transparent and citizen-friendly.

He elaborated that self-enumeration shall enable residents to fill in their details independently and securely from their homes. “Upon successful completion of self-enumeration, a unique Self Enumeration ID (SE ID) will be generated which must be preserved carefully and shared with the Census teams during their household visits for verification and record purposes,” he informed.

The Deputy Commissioner emphasized that self-declaration by citizens during self-enumeration is of utmost importance, as it helps ensure accuracy and authenticity of Census records. He stated that details relating to household members, socio-economic particulars and other notified Census parameters are to be furnished truthfully and carefully in the prescribed 34-point self-declaration format.

He further informed that Census teams will conduct household visits from June 1 to June 30, 2026, for scrutiny, verification and house listing. He urged the public to actively participate in the self-enumeration phase so that field verification can be completed efficiently and in less time.

The Deputy Commissioner clarified that the visiting Census teams will carry special identity cards for clear identification and authenticity. He also cautioned the public that no Census official will demand any OTP during the exercise and advised citizens to remain vigilant against any fraudulent attempts.

Calling for maximum public cooperation, he said that successful conduct of Census 2027 depends on collective participation and awareness and appealed to all residents to make full use of the self-enumeration facility.

Earlier, the Deputy Commissioner chaired a meeting of concerned officers to discuss modalities for the upcoming Census 2027 exercise in the district.

During the meeting, he laid special thrust on wider publicity of the self-enumeration process and house listing schedule to ensure maximum outreach and public awareness. Training of field staff, deployment planning, coordination among departments and other related arrangements were also discussed in detail to ensure smooth conduct of the Census operation.

ADC Vishavjeet Singh, DSEO Sidharth Anand, Tehsildar Kathua Vikram Kumar, DIO NIC Shubham Singh, EO MC Prithvi Sangra, besides ADCs and SDMs and other concerned joined virtually.
