Srinagar :Social Welfare Department (SWD) SANKALP Hub for Empowerment of Women (HEW), Srinagar, organized an awareness session on the “Importance of Digital Literacy for Girls” under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Nawakadal, Thursday.

The programme was aimed at sensitizing girl students about the growing importance of digital literacy, cyber awareness, and the safe and responsible use of online platforms in Thursday’s technology-driven world.

The session witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, and officials of SANKALP-HEW Srinagar.

A resource person from Cyber Police Srinagar attended the programme and delivered an insightful lecture on cyber safety, responsible use of social media, protection against online frauds, prevention of cyber bullying, and the role of digital literacy in empowering young girls.

During the interactive session, students were encouraged to utilize digital platforms productively for education, skill enhancement, and career development, while remaining alert and informed about potential cyber threats. The resource person also stressed the importance of adopting strong passwords, maintaining privacy settings, safeguarding personal information, and promptly reporting suspicious online activities.

Officials from SANKALP-HEW Srinagar highlighted that digital literacy has become an essential tool for empowering girls and enabling their equal participation in the rapidly evolving digital landscape. They reiterated the department’s commitment to organizing such awareness programmes regularly in order to promote digital inclusion, cyber safety, and informed digital engagement among youth.

The programme concluded with an engaging question-and-answer session, during which students actively interacted with the speakers, shared their perspectives on digital learning and online safety, and expressed keen interest in gaining further knowledge about cyber security and digital empowerment.
