Says “Habba Khatoon represents Kashmir’s feminine sensibility”
Srinagar : Dr. Syed Darakhshan Andrabi, Chairperson Jammu & Kashmir Waqf Board, served as the Chief Guest at a seminar dedicated to the renowned Kashmiri poetess Habba Khatoon, held at Government Degree College Pampore. She expressed gratitude to Prof. Shad Ramzan, the Convenor of the Sahitya Akademi Kashmiri Advisory Board, for organizing the event that celebrated the legacy of Habba Khatoon, who is recognized as a significant cultural figure in Kashmir.
Speaking on the occasion Dr Andrabi highlighted the historical contributions of women in shaping Kashmir’s cultural landscape, emphasizing that Habba Khatoon symbolizes the strength and voice of Kashmiri women. She noted the importance of allowing women’s voices to be heard, particularly in the context of the region’s recent history of oppression. Andrabi advocated for the need to create platforms for women’s expression, asserting that societies that fail to honor women’s contributions are destined to decline. Additionally, she supported a resolution to rename Pampore Degree College in honor of Habba Khatoon and called upon the educated community to expand opportunities for women in social discussions, which is essential for the progress of a modern society. The seminar also featured notable figures such as writer Mohammad Yousuf Teng, Prof. Mohammad Zaman Azurdah, and Prof. Ghazala Azhar, the Principal of the College, who contributed to the event’s significance.
