Illegal Structure of Drug Peddler Demolished in Srinagar

Srinagar : Police on Wednesday demolished an illegally constructed residential structure belonging to a notorious drug peddler in Noorbagh area of Srinagar.

In a statement issued here on Wednesday Police said that during investigations structure was found to have been built on encroached land using proceeds from drug trafficking. The accused is involved in multiple NDPS cases, and further links to a wider network are being probed.

In its statement Police said that demolition sends a strong message that assets created through illegal activities will not be allowed to stand, reiterating therein its commitment to zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking.

The five-day workshop on “Research Ethics and Publication,” organized by the School of Education (SoE), Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir), concluded at Tulmulla Campus here. The event brought together around 120 scholars from various universities across the country in a blended mode.

Addressing the participants Prof. Shahid Rasool, Dean of Academic Affairs, highlighted the significance of quality research and academic integrity in establishing world-class tertiary institutions, particularly in advanced economies. He stressed the necessity for emerging scholars to produce plagiarism-free research and maintain rigorous academic standards to foster originality. Dr. Nisar Ahmad Mir, Registrar, emphasized the foundational principles of ethical research, particularly the importance of intellectual honesty. He warned that ethical violations, such as plagiarism and data manipulation, damage the credibility of researchers and erode public trust in academic institutions. He urged scholars to uphold transparency, accountability, and integrity throughout their research endeavors. In his valedictory address, Prof. M. Sultan Bhat, former Dean of Research at the University of Kashmir, called for sustained investment in research and development to align with global academic excellence benchmarks. He noted that developed nations have made significant strides in research due to strategic funding, infrastructure, and policy support. Prof. Bhat reiterated that quality research must be rooted in honesty, originality, and methodological rigor, urging policymakers and institutions to foster environments conducive to high-quality, ethically sound research. Prof. Syed Zahoor Ahmad Geelani, Dean and Head of the School of Education, underscored the critical role of ethical considerations in research conduct and dissemination. He asserted that adherence to ethical standards is essential for ensuring the credibility and societal relevance of research outcomes, especially in an era of heightened academic scrutiny. Lastly, Prof. C Naseema, Senior Professor and I/c Controller of Examinations, noted the positive feedback from participating scholars regarding the program’s effectiveness in addressing contemporary challenges in research ethics and publication practices. She commended the organizers for their efforts in facilitating meaningful discussions on these vital issues.
