Baramulla : The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Kupwara team, led by Dr. G. M. Bhat, on Tuesday visited Karihama village in district Kupwara in response to a request from a young graduate, Ms. Rukaya, who sought practical training in mushroom cultivation and poultry-based activities to become self-reliant.
Rukaya, whose health condition limits her ability to take up physically demanding work, had approached the KVK office with a strong desire to start an income-generating venture from home. Recognising her determination and circumstances, the KVK team immediately conducted a field visit to her residence.
During the visit, the team provided hands-on training in mushroom cultivation, covering key aspects such as preparation methods, maintenance practices, and income generation potential. Officials also assured her of continued technical guidance and full support to help her establish a sustainable livelihood unit.
The visit was accompanied by progressive farmer Mohd Ramzan, who shared his practical experiences and encouraged Rukaya to confidently adopt self-employment activities.
Despite her health challenges, Rukaya’s enthusiasm and commitment to learning were noted as an inspiring example of resilience and determination. The initiative reflects KVK Kupwara’s broader mission of empowering youth, especially those facing physical or social constraints, to achieve self-sufficiency through skill-based livelihoods.
Expressing gratitude, Ms. Rukaya thanked the entire KVK Kupwara team for their timely support, guidance, and encouragement, stating that the intervention has given her a new path towards independence.
