Baramulla :Residents of Dargam village in Pattan area of Baramulla district are facing an acute shortage of drinking water and have urged the authorities to take immediate steps to resolve the issue.
Locals said the village has been struggling with water scarcity since 1994. In 2021, a borewell was sanctioned under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), but it failed due to lack of sufficient groundwater. The borewell was later re-drilled on 3rd time and completed in October 2025; however, the water quality and feasibility report has not yet been submitted.
Residents alleged that due to the pending report, no further action has been taken, including revision of the Detailed Project Report (DPR). They also claimed that concerned officials have not responded adequately to their repeated requests.
The ongoing crisis has caused serious inconvenience to the villagers, particularly women, children, and the elderly, who are forced to fetch water from distant sources.
The residents have appealed to higher authorities to intervene and direct the concerned officials to submit the pending report and ensure a sustainable drinking water supply for the village.
