Srinagar :The Enforcement Wing of the State Tax Department Udhampur, in its sustained drive against tax evasion, has achieved significant success by realizing a penalty of ₹11.93 lakh from two tax defaulters during a recent operation.

The interception was carried out on the intervening night of 30.04.2026 and 01.05.2026 after persistent and well-coordinated efforts by the enforcement team. This operation marks the second major success within a week, the first being a penalty of ₹6.29 lakh, other than several other minor recoveries.

This achievement reflects the effective command and control of the Commissioner, P.K. Bhat, over tax administration and the robust implementation of GST laws by field enforcement formations. The success is a testament to the team’s dedication, use of modern investigative tools and coordinated field action.

Acting on the input/directions of Anil Kumar Chandail Deputy Commissioner two teams led by STOs Ayush Sharma and Kamal Gupta were mobilized. One of them headed by Inspector Amir Hussain and assisted by SIs Hardeep Singh and Harminder Singh successfully tracked and intercepted two vehicles.

The vehicles were found carrying scrap goods without proper documentation, leading to the imposition and recovery of penalties as per GST provisions.

It is pertinent to mention that under the guidance/supervision of Anil Kumar Chandail, the Enforcement Wing has realized a total penalty of ₹18.22 lakh within a week. The team has shown exceptional performance in both revenue realization and strict verification of E-Way Bills (EWBs), setting new benchmarks in enforcement efficiency.

Commissioner P.K. Bhat conveyed his appreciation to the Enforcement Udhampur team for this notable achievement and urged them to continue working with the same level of alertness, dedication and professionalism, while also safeguarding the interests of genuine taxpayers.

The department has appealed to all taxpayers to strictly comply with GST norms in the interest of fair trade practices and protection of government revenue.
