One Day Workshop On Islamic Calligraphy held at Islamic Studies at GDC Shopian

Srinagar : Department of Islamic Studies GDC Shopian organised a One -Day Workshop on “Islamic Calligraphy” Under the aegis of Nasha Mukht Bharat Abhyan on 30 April 2026. The Event started with the Quranic recitation by Mohsin Khursheed. The Head , Department of Islamic Studies, Dr. Zaira Ashraf Khan briefed the audience about the aim and objectives of the workshop. To direct youth to a brighter future and instill an interest in Art and Calligraphy . Art hones our creativity, adds productivity to out free time and is theraputic in present stressful era where youth are resorting to other means to get peace and pleasure.

 

The worthy Principal , GDC Shopian, Prof. Tariq Hussain Mir , appreciated students for showing interest in extra curricular activities out of passion and not compulsion. He supported the culmination of the workshop in every possible manner to let students learn beyond the classrooms and benefit from experts in the field.

 

The resource person for the workshop was Ms. Ghummar Shaheen , a budding and celebrated calligraphist of the valley who has produced breathtaking Art works in Islamic Calligraphy . Her expertise ranges from Sulus Script , Wisam script to Diwani and Modern Calligraphy.

 

Students were provided with the traditional tool kit of calligraphy that includes Bamboo pens, ink and Glossy paper . The were completely engrossed in the workshop all day and showed their interest . The began with absolutely no information on the technicalities of the Art to producing a piece of Art at the end of the workshop which was highly commendable. Many Faculty members also showed their interest in the workshop.

 

The Proceedings were carried out by Dr. Sartaj Ahmad Sofi and Vote of Thanks was presented by Dr. Syed Sabha (Faculty of Islamic Studies.
