Kulgam Police bust Inter-State Drug Racket, assets worth ₹92.73 lakh attached

Kulgam, May 2: In a significant action against drug trafficking, Kulgam Police on Saturday have busted an inter-state narcotics network and identified as well as attached illegally acquired property worth ₹92.73 lakhs linked to the accused at Beli Charana, Jammu.

A Police spokesperson said that During routine patrolling at Kurigam near Railway Station Qazigund on 20th March, 2026 police party from Police Station Qazigund apprehended a suspicious individual, identified as Mohammad Rafiq Mir, a resident of Panzinara, Srinagar. Upon his search, approximately 16 grams of heroin (commonly known as brown sugar) was recovered from his possession.

Accordingly, FIR No. 43/2026 under Sections 8/21 of the NDPS Act was registered, and investigation was taken up.

During sustained interrogation, the accused disclosed that the contraband substance had been procured from one Bagh Hussain Kasana, a resident of Channore Basti Gajansu, Jammu, presently residing at Nikki Tawi, Jammu. Acting swiftly on this information, Kulgam Police obtained a search warrant from the competent court and conducted a search of the said individual’s residence, leading to the recovery of 265 grams of heroin-like substance.

Subsequently, Section 29 of the NDPS Act was invoked, and the accused Bagh Hussain Kasana was arrested on 22/03/2026.

Investigation has revealed that the accused was actively involved in inter-state narcotics trafficking and was supplying drugs to various parts of the Kashmir Valley for monetary gains. It also came to light that he had no legitimate source of income and had been engaged in drug peddling for a considerable period.

The accused is presently lodged at District Jail Anantnag.

During the course of investigation, a detailed financial investigation was carried out by SHO Qazigund, Shri Manav Dhanetiya (IPS Probationer), under the supervision of Sh Mansoor Ayaz JKPS SDPO Qazigund and Sh Mumtaz Ali Bhatti JKPS Addl. Sp ( Highway) Qazigund which led to the identification and attachment of assets acquired through proceeds of narcotics trafficking at Beli Charana, Jammu.

During the course of investigation, it was established that the accused had acquired immovable assets through proceeds of narcotics trafficking, including:

Land valued at approximately ₹71.52 lakhsResidential house valued at approximately ₹21.21 lakhs.The total value of identified and attached assets amounts to ₹92.73 lakhs.Kulgam Shri Anayat Ali Choudhary (IPS) stated that Kulgam Police is committed to dismantling drug networks operating in the district and beyond. He emphasized that stringent action will be taken not only against drug peddlers but also against those who facilitate or finance such illegal activities. He further appealed to the general public, especially the youth, to stay away from drugs and urged citizens to come forward with any information related to drug trafficking, assuring strict confidentiality.

 

Kulgam Police reiterates its firm commitment to eradicate the menace of drug trafficking and warns individuals involved in such illegal activities of strict legal action. Public cooperation is solicited to build a drug-free society.
