Srinagar, May 1 (UNI) Lieutenant General Balbir Singh is set to assume command of the Army’s Srinagar-based strategic 15 Corps, succeeding Lieutenant General Prashant Srivastava, who relinquished charge on Friday after completing his tenure.

Prior to his appointment in Kashmir, Lieutenant General Singh served as Major General General Staff at Northern Command and, following his elevation, was posted as General Officer Commanding of the 15 Corps, also known as the Chinar Corps.

Lt Gen Singh brings with him extensive operational experience in Kashmir, particularly in counter-terrorism operations.

Earlier, the outgoing GOC, Lt Gen Srivastava paid homage at the Chinar War Memorial, honouring the soldiers who laid down their lives in the line of duty.

In his farewell message, he expressed gratitude to all ranks of the Chinar Corps, the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Central Armed Police Forces, civil administration, and the people of Kashmir for their continued support in maintaining peace and stability in the region.

“On relinquishing the command of ChinarCorps, Lt Gen Prashant Srivastava paid homage at the Chinar War Memorial, honouring the bravehearts who made the supreme sacrifice in service of the Nation. In his farewell message, he thanked all ranks of Chinar Corps, JmuKmrPolice, Central Armed Police Forces, Civil Administration and the Awaam of Kashmir for their steadfast support in fostering peace and harmony,” Army’s Chinar Corps said on X.

Lt Gen Srivastava had taken over as GOC of the 15 Corps on October 5, 2024, succeeding Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai. His tenure witnessed several key security operations, notably Operation Sindoor, a precision strike across the Line of Control targeting terror infrastructure, and Operation Mahadev, which led to the killing of three terrorists who were involved in Pahalgam terror attack in April that left 25 tourists and a local resident dead.
