NMBA@100: Ganderbal unrolls Mat against Drugs by convening Mass Yoga session

Ganderbal :  District Administration Ganderbal Friday organised a large-scale yoga session at the DC Office Lawns, bringing together students, government employees, and residents in a united stand against drug abuse.

The event was presided over by the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Ganderbal, Syed Faheem Bihaqi, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Principal, Government College of Physical Education; Deputy Superintendent of Police Hqrs; and other officers and officials at the Mini-Secretariat Lawns, with parallel sessions held simultaneously across schools, colleges, and public spaces throughout the district.

The initiative is part of the NashaMukt Abhiyan (NMBA@100), a structured 100 day campaign being implemented under the vision of the Honorable Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir to make the Union Territory drug-free. Ganderbal’s administration has drawn up a dedicated 100-day district calendar anchoring health awareness at the centre of this mission.

On the occasion, trained yoga instructors led the participants through a series of structured yoga sessions, guiding them step by step through postures and breathing exercises aimed at promoting physical fitness and mental calm.

Speaking on the occasion, the ADC said that yoga activity has dual impact as it builds physical resilience while also strengthening mental well-being, both of which are recognised as key protective factors against substance dependency. He said the administration believes that nurturing healthy daily habits, particularly among young people, is among the most sustainable ways to keep communities drug-free.

“Friday’s yoga drive, however, is only one component of a broader and coordinated district-wide effort.

On the enforcement front, authorities are carrying out sustained action against drug peddlers and supply networks operating across the district. Alongside this, the administration is running sports competitions, public awareness marches, and door-to-door outreach campaigns to engage communities directly,” Bihaqi said.

He added that schools and colleges are also at the heart of this effort, with targeted educational programmes designed to reach young people before substance abuse takes hold. Taken together, these measures are driving home a single, clear message “Say No to Drugs, Yes to Life” into every household across Ganderbal.

The administration has set a clear and time-bound target to declare Ganderbal a drug-free district within the 100-day campaign window. Officials have emphasised that achieving this goal calls for participation from every section of society viz. families, teachers, religious leaders, youth groups, and local institutions alike and that the momentum built so far is a strong foundation for the days ahead.

“Physical wellness and community solidarity are our strongest tools in this fight. When people are healthy, engaged, and connected, they are far less vulnerable to the trap of substance abuse. We invite every citizen of Ganderbal to be an active part of this mission,” the ADC added.
