Srinagar, Apr 29: The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has notified revised maximum fares for various categories of commercial passenger vehicles, approving an 18 per cent hike across multiple segments.

According to an official notification issued by the Transport Department, the revised fares have been fixed under provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, in partial modification of earlier notification SRO-97 dated March 19, 2021.

The notification states that the fare hike will be applicable to big buses, medium and mini buses, taxi/maxi cabs (including base models such as Sumo, Bolero, Tata Indica, Swift, Tata Winger, Tempo Traveller), as well as medium and premium segment tourist taxis like Tavera, Scorpio, Qualis, Xylo, Innova and Fortuner.

Auto rickshaws (petrol version) and stage carriages including Tata Magic (Auto) have also been included under the revised structure, with all categories witnessing an 18 per cent increase in maximum chargeable fares.

However, the government has separately fixed fares for e-rickshaws and e-autos. As per the notification, e-rickshaws will charge ₹15 per kilometre, while e-autos will charge ₹25 for the first kilometre and ₹20 for each subsequent kilometre.

The order has been issued by the Transport Department with approval from the competent authority, officials said.
