Seven drug peddlers arrested across Kashmir; Contraband substances recovered: Police

Srinagar  : Police on Monday said that it has arrested 7 drug peddlers in various parts of valley and  also recovered contraband substances from their possession.

A Police Spokesperson said, In Anantnag, acting on specific inputs and during routine operations, J&K Police achieved significant success in its ongoing drive against drug trafficking, recovering large quantities of contraband and arresting multiple accused persons. A police party of Police Station Srigufwara, during patrolling at Shalgam Crossing, intercepted a vehicle Alto (JK01W-7328). Upon search, approximately 110 kgs of Ganja was recovered. One person Nazir Ahmad Khatana son of FaqeerKhatana resident of Gujar Basti Shalgam, was arrested on the spot. Meanwhile, a police party from Police Post Dialgam, acting on credible information, conducted a search at the residence of Mohd Rafiq Itoo resident of WatrigamDialgam after obtaining a search warrant from the competent court. During the search, approximately 51 kgs of charas-like substance was recovered from the said house. Further, a police party from Police Station Srigufwara during naka checking at Sakhras Crossing apprehended one individual identified as Rayees Ahmad Shah son of Gull Mohd Shah resident of Wullarhama. During search, about 5 kgs of charas powder was recovered from his possession. In a separate action, a police party from Police Station Bijbehara apprehended a drug peddler during naka checking at DoodnadWaghama and recovered 170 grams of charas-like substance along with ₹18,700 cash from his possession.

In Handwara, a vigilant police team from PP Chogul, falling under the jurisdiction of Police Station Handwara, intercepted a suspicious individual who attempted to flee on spotting the police party.  But the police team successfully apprehended the accused. Upon personal search, a significant quantity of contraband charas-like substance was recovered from his possession. The accused has been identified as Gh Hassan Khan son of Gh Nabi Khan resident of Maidan Chogul.

In Baramulla, a police party of Police Post Palhalan established a naka at Ghat Palhalan near the Railway underpass. During the operation, one suspicious individual was intercepted and tactfully apprehended. He was later identified as Manzoor Ahmad Lone son of Gh. Nabi Lone resident of Yedipora. Upon conducting his personal search, approximately 150 grams of charas-like contraband substance was recovered from his possession.

In Shopian, during routine naka checking at Tul Bagh Haji Check Crossing, a police party from Police Post Keegam observed a person moving under suspicious circumstances and tactfully apprehended him. Upon search, 144 grams of charas-like substance was recovered from his possession. The accused has been identified as Jumeer Ahmad Mir son of Ab Rashid Mir resident of PirporaKeegam. Further investigation is underway to establish forward and backward linkages and to dismantle the broader drug network involved.

All the accused persons were arrested and accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigation is underway to ascertain the source and wider linkages involved.

In its statement Police reaffirmed its commitment under the NashaMukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan for building  a safer, healthier and drug-free society.
