Srinagar :The Indian National Young Academy of Science, in collaboration with National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar on Monday organized a Science Outreach Programme on “Materials Science and Technology for Society” at Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Soura.
The INYAS nationwide outreach initiative successfully engaged over 100 students and faculty members in a program is designed to promote creative thinking and curiosity among school students. Dr. Vijay Kumar, a member of INYAS and Assistant Professor at NIT Srinagar, delivered a lecture titled “How Materials Glow: The Science Behind LEDs and Light,” which made fundamental concepts of material science accessible to the audience. Additionally, Dr. Mohd Zubair Ansari presented on recent advancements in solar cell research and emerging trends in material science, emphasizing the importance of innovation in sustainable technologies. The program was coordinated by Dr. Kumar and Dr. Ansari, with local arrangements managed by senior lecturer Mohammad Ibbrahim from BHSS Soura. Dr. Vijay Kumar highlighted the significance of such outreach programs in inspiring students to pursue careers in science and technology, particularly in remote areas. He reaffirmed INYAS’s commitment to nurturing scientific curiosity and innovation among students. Prof. Binod Kumar Kanaujia, Director of NIT Srinagar, noted that initiatives like this are essential for bridging the gap between higher education institutions and school-level learning, as early exposure to scientific research and practical knowledge is crucial for developing future innovators and problem-solvers. Registrar Dr. Atikur Rehman praised the program for strengthening the foundation of scientific education at the grassroots level and expressed NIT Srinagar’s ongoing support for collaborative efforts that promote academic excellence and innovation among youth.
