Shopian, Apr 28: The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) Shopian on Tuesday resumed its search operation for the third consecutive day near Dubjan Bridge in Shopian to trace and retrieve a 5-year-old boy who drowned in a nallah.
The boy has been identified as Mohammad Hunzala, son of Nigar Ahmad Turrey, a resident of Tiken in Pulwama district.
Officials said the child had accidentally slipped into a fast-flowing nallah near Dubjan Bridge, following which a rescue operation was launched. Despite sustained efforts over the past two days, the body could not be retrieved.
They said teams of SDRF are continuing the search operation in the area, braving difficult conditions in a bid to locate the missing child.
Meanwhile, authorities have urged people to remain vigilant around water bodies and ensure close supervision of children to prevent such incidents.
