Srinagar : Monthly District Level Committee on Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) was held Monday, under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner(DC) Srinagar, AkshayLabroo here at the Meeting Hall of the DC Office Complex to assess the effectiveness of ongoing enforcement and preventive strategies being implemented in the district. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Dr. Sandeep Chakravarthy was also present in the meeting.
During the recent meeting, participants underscored the urgent need for intensified enforcement actions against drug peddlers and their networks, advocating for enhanced inter-agency coordination among enforcement, regulatory, and health departments. The Committee reviewed ongoing enforcement measures under the 100 days Jammu and Kashmir NashaMukt Abhiyan campaign, emphasizing a sustained crackdown on drug trafficking, particularly in Srinagar district. Key strategies discussed included the necessity for stringent enforcement and increased confiscations of narcotics to dismantle drug networks. The Committee also highlighted the importance of Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) initiatives aimed at sensitizing youth about the dangers of drug abuse, particularly within educational institutions. A sustained awareness campaign was deemed essential to build resilience against addiction among young people. The Deputy Commissioner stressed the need for systematic dismantling of logistical support networks for drug peddling and called for strict actions against individuals involved in drug trafficking. He emphasized a comprehensive approach that combines focused enforcement, preventive awareness campaigns, and robust rehabilitation efforts to combat the drug menace effectively. The SSP Srinagar reiterated a zero-tolerance policy towards drug peddlers, committing to intensified actions against identified hotspots. The meeting reported significant progress, including the registration of 26 FIRs and the arrest of 39 individuals involved in drug-related activities. Nine drug hotspots have been identified, with regular surveillance and Naka checking being conducted. Additionally, 157 CCTV cameras have been installed in these areas for monitoring, while the Regional Transport Office has disqualified 73 vehicle licenses and seized 65 vehicles under the NDPS Act. The Drug Control Department has conducted extensive inspections, resulting in the suspension of six drug licenses. The Anti-Narcotics Task Force has also been active, registering multiple cases against offenders. The meeting was attended by various officials from relevant departments, highlighting a coordinated effort to address the drug issue in the district.
