Over 160 Kg Narcotics seized in Anantnag, Several held: Police

Anantnag, 27 April: Acting on specific inputs and during routine operations, Anantnag Police on Monday achieved significant success in its ongoing drive against drug trafficking, recovering large quantities of contraband and arresting multiple accused persons.

A Spokesperson said that Police Station Srigufwara, during patrolling at Shalgam Crossing, intercepted an Alto vehicle (JK01W-7328). Upon search, approximately 110 kgs of Ganja was recovered. One person Nazir Ahmad Khatana S/o Faqeer Khatana R/o Gujar Basti Shalgam, was arrested on the spot. Accordingly, FIR No. 39/2026 under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered and investigation is in progress.

In another operation, a police party from Police Post Dialgam, acting on credible information, conducted a search at the residence of Mohd Rafiq Itoo R/o Watrigam Dialgam after obtaining a search warrant from the competent court. During the search, approximately 51 kgs of charas-like substance was recovered from the said house. In this regard, FIR No. 119/2026 u/s 8/20 NDPS Act has been registered and further investigation is underway.

Further, Police Station Srigufwara during naka checking at Sakhras Crossing apprehended one individual identified as Rayees Ahmad Shah S/o Gull Mohd Shah R/o Wullarhama. On search, about 5 kgs of charas powder was recovered from his possession. Accordingly, FIR No. 40/2026 u/s 8/20 NDPS Act stands registered.

In a separate action, Police Station Bijbehara apprehended a drug peddler during naka checking at Doodnad Waghama and recovered 170 grams of charas-like substance along with ₹18,700 cash from his possession. In this connection, FIR No. 111/2026 u/s 8/20 NDPS Act has been registered and investigation set into motion.

Anantnag Police reiterates its commitment to eradicate the menace of drugs and appeals to the general public to cooperate by sharing any information related to narcotics.
