Sopore : Police on Friday conducted focused inspections of medical stores and pharmacy outlets across Police District Sopore to ensure strict adherence to regulatory norms.
The inspections were carried out in coordination with concerned civil departments, aiming to verify compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and to prevent the sale of scheduled drugs without valid medical prescriptions.
During the drive, shop owners and staff were sensitised about their legal and social responsibilities. They were directed to strictly follow provisions of the Drugs & Cosmetics Act, maintain proper sale and purchase records of scheduled medicines, and ensure that psychotropic and Schedule H1 drugs are not dispensed without authorised prescriptions.
Authorities issued a stern warning to chemists, stating that any violation—including the illegal sale of prescription drugs—will attract strict legal action under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act and Drugs & Cosmetics Act.
Sopore Police emphasised that, alongside strong action against drug trafficking, proactive regulatory checks and awareness initiatives are being undertaken to curb misuse of pharmaceutical drugs at the source.
