Newborn death in Ganderbal triggers negligence allegations, Probe ordered

Ganderbal, Apr 24: A newborn’s death at District Hospital Ganderbal has triggered allegations of medical negligence, with the family of the deceased newborn from the Gutlibagh area of district Ganderbal demanding a thorough probe into the incident.

The family alleged that the expecting mother had been admitted to the hospital two days before the incident after crossing her due date, with surgery scheduled for April 20.

They claimed repeated requests were made to refer the patient to SKIMS Soura if the case could not be managed locally, but no referral was made.

“They kept telling us everything was normal. Even minutes before the surgery, doctors said the baby was fine. Suddenly, they took her for surgery, and after the procedure, the baby was declared dead,” a family member alleged.

The family has sought strict action against those responsible and urged the authorities to ensure accountability.

Meanwhile, the Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Ganderbal, speaking to reporters, said that a committee has been constituted to inquire into the incident.

“As per standard protocol, we have constituted an internal audit committee. It will submit its report within a day or two, and further action will be taken based on its findings,” she said.
