Srinagar :District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Srinagar in collaboration with Chief Education Officer Srinagar Tuesday organized an awareness programme  under the guidance of Haq Nawaz Zargar, Chairman DLSA  (PD&SJ) Srinagar and overall supervision of Secretary DLSA Srinagar at Government Girls Higher Secondary School (GHSS)

Nawakadal with the objective of sensitizing students about important legal provisions and social issues affecting society.

The programme witnessed active participation of students and staff, and featured informative sessions by legal experts. Jahan Ara, Deputy Legal Aid Defense Counsel (LADC) delivered an insightful lecture on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, highlighting the rights of children, legal safeguards available to them, and the importance of reporting offences without fear. Emphasis was laid on creating a safe environment for children both at home and in educational institutions.

Adv. Sofiya Mudassir, Trained Mediator DLSA, spoke on the Dowry Prohibition Act and the concept of free legal aid. The speaker elaborated on the legal consequences of demanding or giving dowry and stressed the need to eradicate this social evil. Students were also informed about the availability of free legal aid services for eligible persons under various schemes, ensuring access to justice for all sections of society.

Further, SeharNazir,  Assistant LADC addressed the gathering on the growing menace of drug abuse, particularly among youth. The session focused on the harmful effects of substance abuse, legal implications, and the importance of making informed and responsible life choices. Students were encouraged to stay away from drugs and to spread awareness among their peers.

The programme concluded with an interactive session where students raised queries and actively engaged with the speakers. The initiative aimed at empowering young minds with legal knowledge and promoting awareness about social issues, thereby contributing to the creation of a more informed and responsible society.

DLSA Srinagar remains committed to conducting such awareness programmes to educate the public and ensure access to justice for all.
