5 Drug Peddlers Arrested, Contraband Substances Recovered: Police

Srinagar :  Under the NashaMukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan, J&K Police on Saturday arrested five drug peddlers in multiple operations across Anantnag and Sopore, recovering a significant quantity of contraband substances from their possession.

Reports said that in Anantnag, police intensified their crackdown on drug peddling and narcotics smuggling, leading to the arrest of four accused persons. A police party from Police Station Uttrasoo, during naka checking at Chattergul Chowk, intercepted an Alto vehicle (JK03K-9820). During the search, 1 kg of charas powder and 100 grams of charas balls were recovered. The accused, Farooq Ahmad Khan, son of Fazil Khan, a resident of Poshnari, is a government employee working as a Class IV employee in Vailoo Court.

In another operation, acting on reliable information, a police team from Police Station Aishmuqam conducted a raid at the residence of Salman Saleem Rather, son of Mohammad Saleem Rather, a resident of Diyaroo, in the presence of an Executive Magistrate. During the search, 2.590 kg of crushed charas-like substance (bhang bhoosa) was recovered.

Similarly, a police party from Police Station Mattan, during naka checking at Bumzoo KP Road near Footbridge Nambal, intercepted a suspicious individual identified as Aaqib Ahmad Shah, son of Gh Hassan Shah, a resident of Shaksaz Mohalla Seer Hamdan. Upon searching his bag, 3 kg of ground cannabis leaves, flowers, and seeds were recovered.

In a separate action, police from Police Station Bijbehara conducted a raid at the residence of Irfan GaniKandroo, son of Abdul GaniKandroo, a resident of Adder Bijbehara, and recovered 5.03 kg of charas powder-like substance.

In Sopore, police apprehended a drug peddler under the jurisdiction of Police Station Panzalla. During naka checking at TarbalRohama, a suspicious individual was intercepted. Upon personal search, charas-like contraband substance was recovered. The accused has been identified as Shahid Ahmad Mir, son of Abdul Rashid Mir, a resident of MirporaRohama, Rafiabad.

All accused have been arrested and cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations. Further investigation is underway to unearth the larger network involved. In a statement issued here on Saturday Police reiterated its commitment to eradicate drug menace and appealed people to share any inputs related to drug peddling or illegal activities.
