Jammu: What began as a day of joy and laughter for a group of college students turned into a heartbreaking tragedy in Udhampur on Thursday, when a young student lost her life after falling from a moving bus during a picnic trip.
A witness saud that victim, Anjali Choudhary, a 20-year-old fourth-semester student of Government College for Women Gandhinagar, was part of a group heading to the scenic hill destination of Patnitop. “The atmosphere, filled with excitement and youthful energy, took a devastating turn when Anjali accidentally fell from the bus near Udhampur city,” he added.
According to initial reports, the incident occurred around 10:30 am, approximately one kilometre before reaching Udhampur. Eyewitnesses recounted a chilling moment as Anjali reportedly fell from the rear window of the moving vehicle. The exact cause of the fall remains unclear, leaving behind questions and grief.
She sustained severe head injuries in the fall. Despite immediate attention, the injuries proved fatal, cutting short a young life full of promise and dreams.
Anjali, daughter of Naresh Choudhary and Rekha Devi, hailed from the Miran Sahib area on the outskirts of Jammu. A dedicated student pursuing Physics, she was known among her peers for her sincerity and quiet determination.
In the aftermath of the incident, the picnic was immediately cancelled, and all buses returned to Jammu in a somber silence—joy replaced by shock and mourning.
Jammu and Kashmir’s Education Minister, Sakina Itoo, expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss. In a statement, she extended her heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and the college community, assuring that authorities have been directed to provide all possible assistance.
“Deeply saddened to learn about the tragic death… My heartfelt condolences to her grieving family, friends, and the entire college fraternity,” she said, adding that support measures are being put in place for the affected family
