Dear Editor,
I want to publish my view through columns of your leading newspaper in Kashmir on Jan Vishwas Bill 2026. Below mentioned are my views on the subject:-
Decriminalization: Relief or Regulatory Risk?
The Jan Vishwas Bill 2026, while aiming for Ease of Doing Business risks diluting the deterrent effect of our legal framework. Decriminalizing over 700 provisions across 80 Central Acts may inadvertently embolden corporate negligence under the guise of minor lapses. With India’s judiciary already burdened by 50 million cases replacing jail time with mere civil penalties could turn compliance into a cost of doing business rather than a moral obligation. Without a robust automated oversight mechanism this shift from punitive to trust-based regulation could trigger a wave of wilful violations. We must ensure that Jan Vishwas does not become a sanctuary for systemic malpractice at the expense of public accountability.
