BGSBU holds Seminar on Gojri & Pahari Language, Literature

Rajouri : The Centre for Gojri, Pahari, and Kashmiri Languages at Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University hosted a significant one-day seminar focused on “Gojri and Pahari Language and Literature.”

The event gathered scholars, writers, faculty, and students to celebrate and promote the region’s linguistic and cultural heritage. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Jawaid Iqbal, chaired the inaugural session, emphasizing the university’s role in preserving regional languages through research and academic initiatives. He underscored that Gojri and Pahari languages embody the region’s collective memory and identity, urging participants to work towards their global recognition. The seminar was organized under the guidance of Registrar Abhishek Sharma, IAS, with Dr. Liaqat Nayyer, the Centre’s Coordinator, expressing gratitude for the administrative support that facilitated the event. Dr. Shams Kamal Anjum noted the seminar’s importance in preserving the region’s linguistic heritage. Esteemed scholars, including Khurshid Bismil and Dr. Rafiq Anjum, presented insightful papers on the literary richness of Gojri and Pahari languages. A notable highlight was the release of two significant publications: “ChaliyaanSuraan” by Mohd. Iqbal Nazish and a “Gojri–Hindi Dictionary” by Dr. Rafiq Anjum, marking a crucial advancement in research and documentation of regional languages. The proceedings were effectively managed by Dr. Liaqat Nayyer, and the event featured a cultural segment with musical performances in Gojri and Pahari. Additionally, meritorious students were recognized, and faculty members received mementos and certificates for their contributions. Faculty from various departments, along with students and research scholars, actively participated in the seminar, reflecting a strong commitment to the promotion of regional languages.
