Srinagar : Police on Thursday said that it has seized 14 vehicles for being involved in unlawful extraction and transportation of minerals across districts.
In a statement issued here on Thursday Police said that in Awantipora, a police team seized a tipper and equipment used for illegal mining along river Jhelum at Lethpora and arrested those involved. In Shopian, Police Station Zainapora seized a JCB engaged in illegal mining, while Police Station Heerpora seized a jungle truck and Police Post Sadipora seized a tractor. Another tractor was seized by Police Station Keller. In Anantnag, Police Station Dooru seized one JCB and five tractors during night operations. Police Post Dialgam also seized one JCB and two tractors at Brinty Nallah. Cases have been registered and investigations initiated. In its statement Police reiterated commitment to continue its crackdown on illegal mining operators.
