Dear Editor,
I want to publish my view through columns of your leading newspaper in Kashmir on disruption of Mango, Pomegranate,Grapes, Bananas, Papaya and Guava exports from Karnataka. Below mentioned are my views on the subject:-
Fruit Exports on Thin Ice
The disruption of Mango,Pomegranate,Grapes, Bananas,Papaya and Guava exports from Karnataka’s heartland exposes a systemic fragility in our agricultural strategy. Relying on volatile corridors like West Asia has left growers vulnerable to geopolitical tremors they cannot control. This crisis isn’t isolated to other exotic fruits like avocado, dragon and jack fruit also face similar bottlenecks. One must stop viewing export markets as an afterthought to surplus and treat them as a specialized infrastructure. Diversifying to the UK and Canada is a start but without government backed insurance against regional conflicts and subsidized cold-chain logistics, farmers remain at the mercy of middlemen and cash only uncertainty. We need robust direct to market channels and domestic processing hubs to ensure that a bumper crop doesn’t become a financial burden.
