Srinagar : The Department of Students’ Welfare (DSW) in collaboration with the Department of History, University of Kashmir (KU), celebrated Ambedkar Jayanti to commemorate the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna, Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar at the Main Campus.
The event was organized to honor the life and legacy of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, focusing on his significant contributions to social justice, equality, and the Indian Constitution. Vice-Chancellor of KU, Prof. Nilofer Khan, emphasized that Dr. Ambedkar’s vision for an inclusive society remains relevant today, guiding efforts towards a more equitable nation. She highlighted the importance of such commemorative events in educating students about democracy, constitutional rights, and social responsibility. Prof. Pervez Ahmad, Dean of Students Welfare at KU, underscored Ambedkar’s pivotal role in promoting education and empowering marginalized communities. Dr. Younis Rashid, a faculty member from the Department of History and event coordinator, discussed Ambedkar’s multifaceted contributions as a social reformer, economist, and thinker, stressing the ongoing relevance of his ideas in modern society. Students and research scholars from the Department of History contributed their insights, with Shaista Amin linking Ambedkar’s vision of social equality to environmental justice. Asif Nawaz highlighted Ambedkar’s transformative impact on modern India, focusing on his fight against social injustice and his commitment to human dignity. Other presenters included Sameen Ahmad, Rayees Ahmad, Basira Amreen, and Munaza Mansoor.
